Shelter dog is finally adopted into his forever home

Imagine living in a cold, lonely cage for 66 days of your life. Hundreds of potential adopters passing you by, but not one showing any interest. They give you a passing smile and may even stop for the occasional pet, but then they continue walking.
That was life for Austin at the Carson Animal Shelter in Gardena, California. Austin arrived at the shelter on March 12 and would spend the next two months waiting for his forever home.

When Austin first arrived at the shelter he was timid, confused and overwhelmed.

Like so many other pit bulls, Austin was overlooked time and time again at the shelter.
Each year, over 1.2 million dogs are euthanized – almost 40 percent of which are pit bulls. They are the most common breed found in shelters and are far more likely to be euthanized than adopted. Why? Blame it on overpopulation and breed-specific laws (where certain areas ban the ownership of pit bulls).

ADOPTED - moved to SAFE Album 05/17 Sweet, little AUSTIN is adorable with his big head, short legs and beautiful energy. He is overwhelmed by the Shelter and he needs some help. Please SHARE for his life, he needs a TEMPERAMENT TEST requested IN PERSON by an Interested Party before the Shelter will allow him to be saved. Without this Test being ordered he can be PTS at any time after his Available date. A FOSTER or Adopter would save his life. Thanks! #A4927768 My name is AUSTIN and I'm an approximately 2 year old male Pit Bull. I am not yet neutered. I have been at the Carson Animal Care Center since 3/12. I will be available on 3/16. Luckily, the staff and volunteers at the Carson Animal Shelter didn’t give up on Austin. They visited with him and made sure he knew he wasn’t forgotten. But despite all their efforts, Austin remained at the shelter.

Until one day, it was finally time for Austin to go to his forever home!
On Austin’s last day in the shelter, he was so shocked to be leaving, he could hardly walk.
Thankfully, Austin was able to find his forever home, but other shelter dogs are not as lucky.

The dog's name was Ojitos, which is Spanish for 'little eyes.' Ojitos may have had small eyes, but nobody could deny the size of his large heart.
