Life as a homeless dog is hard enough. Your life consists of rummaging through
garbage for food, trying not to get hit by a car, and searching for someone to save
you. Now imagine you were homeless but your fur was so matted, you could barely walk. That was life for a whole month for Freight – a beautiful
collie roaming around a Chicago railroad yard. Freight’s fur was so matted he
couldn’t even move his back legs. He was so scared he avoided all efforts to catch him.
Thankfully, the Trio Animal Foundation of Chicago Illinois
was finally able to capture Freight. His fur was so bad, they couldn’t even
tell whether he was male or female. Freight was covered in twigs, dirt, dried
feces, urine, and burrs – he couldn’t even fully extend his hind legs to
relieve himself:

Once the matted fur was finally shaved off, Freight was able
to move his legs and relieve himself in comfort:
Freight then received a warm,
medicated bath and was taken to the vet where he was diagnosed with heartworms and
internal parasites.
It was obvious it would take a
while for Freight to make a full recovery. Luckily, he was placed in a
foster home where he would be able to spend his time recovering in peace:
With time and love, Freight began
to open up. The once shy collie began to crave affection and even started to give kisses to his doctors:
Eventually, Freight’s foster
parents became so attached to him, they were “foster fails” and adopted him:

Now Freight will receive all the love and attention he so desperately deserves!
